Rear domed extension to Easton Mosque

One of our most interesting schemes is the new rear (350 ft2) and front (2000 ft2) extension, plus internal alterations, to Jamia Masjid (Easton) Mosque where we assisted our client M&M Construction.

Completed in June 2017, Bristol’s biggest mosque added a domed extension in the courtyard of the former church hall where it is based, commissioning a two-storey extension to cope with growing numbers of worshippers, and we provided structural superstructure designs along with site inspection services.

One interesting challenge for us was that the former Victorian church hall building’s loadbearing walls were not capable of supporting new first floor loads for public use, and so new structural steelwork support frameworks needed to be introduced to transfer load down onto new foundations. The mosque also had to stay in use during the build so critical areas had to be worked on outside of main prayer times.

Completion: June 2017
