We are fortunate to have seen sustained growth over the past two years (10% in 2012-2013 and 20% in 2013-2014), and have added new part time members to our team, with admin, CAD and engineering assistance to better serve our growing client base of small to medium sized architect and developers. With decades of professional experience housed within the firm, we are confident in our ability to meet both time and quality demands. PRO Structures is experiencing especially significant growth in the residential market, in both the new build and extension sectors, and are delighted to have retained several valued clients. We are now embarking on our third scheme for Charlcombe Homes.
We have added three new case studies to our portfolio: Malmesbury Close, Water Lane and Barton Road St Philips.
June 2014 – PRO Structures wins design for West Street Bedminster development
This is a new multi-storey residential development of around 14 apartments in Bedminster, Bristol. PRO Structures is delighted to have been invited to carry out the engineering design of the substructure and drainage for Prelon Commercial Ltd, working closely with GE2 Architects. This timber frame structure has also required a complex remediation strategy with Geo Site and Testing Services, as there are tanks buried in the ground underneath which are being retained… the project value is approx £1m.
May 2014 – Oakdene under construction
Our third luxury development of five bespoke villas for Charlcombe Homes is on site, with the substructure finished and the superstructure underway. It is located close to their previous schemes, Crown Hill and Lansdown Ridge, which have both been completed and their lucky owners taken up residence! This has been a complex job, involving innovative ICF concrete form construction for excellent airtightness, built on a steeply sloping site with marginal stability, which meant the houses have needed high retaining walls and piled foundations – we worked closely with Core Geotechnics and Cementation Piling to ensure we designed the best solutions in the ground. Each villa, such as this one pictured, right, is likely to be sold for upwards of £1m.
April 2014 – Shipley Road at fit-out stage
This new detached house being built on a vacant lot in Bristol’s desirable Westbury-on-Trym is being designed in cross-laminate timber, an innovative material which enables far better use of space as it can span further without additional supports. We are proud to be working with 3BD Design on this scheme, which has a value of around £600,000. We provided the substructure design and an overview of the superstructure design, and the house is now at fit-out stage.
January 2014 – New development at 317 Wells Road
PRO Structures has been appointed the structural engineer for this new residential development of six 1- and 2-bedroom apartments on the corner of Wells Road and Redcatch Road in Knowle, Bristol. Design is about to start.
November 2013 – Worral Road extension and alterations completed
We were particularly happy with this beautiful kitchen extension and internal alterations, whose structural design we carried out on behalf of Homeworx. The room had previously been divided by a wall which blocked out the light and made it seem dark and gloomy. There were challenges implicit in removing the whole wall, but we made it work and the owner is delighted (image right).
September 2013 – new contract with Persimmon Homes Wessex
We are thrilled to have won a new contract to provide structural engineering design for 51 new units on a sloping site in Royal Wootton Bassett. Construction started last September, and the foundations are now around 60% complete (image right).
July 2013 – third consecutive scheme won with Charlcombe Homes
Our third luxury development of five bespoke villas for Charlcombe Homes, Oakdene, has started on site, close to their previous schemes, Crown Hill and Lansdown Ridge, which have both been completed and their lucky owners taken up residence! We are immensely proud of the trust and confidence our client continues to place in us.
July 2013 – PRO Structures wins at the LABC Awards
Another win for our team! We’re delighted to announce that one of our major clients, Charlcombe Homes, won ‘Best Small Housing Development’ in the 2013 LABC Regional Building Excellence Awards. This was for Ensleigh Lodge, their first development of bespoke mansions overlooking the picturesque Box Valley and cathedral city of Bath. We are currently working on their second scheme, Crown Hill, which is nearing completion as their third project, Oakdene, is set to start.
June 2013 – PRO Structures wins at Design Bristol Awards
Two schemes for which we acted as structural engineering consultant have won at the Design Bristol Awards, announced in May – one in the ‘Best Housing – Small Developer (1-10 Units)’ category, and the other in the ‘Best Domestic Extension category’. The scheme winning the ‘Best Housing Developer’ award was a new development at 80 Holly Lodge Road, Speedwell, which we worked on with Nicholas Morley Architects, and the domestic extension at 69 King’s Drive, Bishopston, which we worked on with 3LP Architecture and Design, was Highly Commended. Needless to say, we are thrilled….
May 2013 – Crown Hill on the way up
This luxury development of five bespoke villas for Charlcombe Homes is well underway, with superstructure shell and core 60% complete as we enter May. This follows the successful completion of their Lansdown Ridge project, where Phase 1 has already all been sold.
April 2013 – Brade Drive Retirement Village reaches its final phase
On this scheme, to provide six retirement bungalows, piling works have been completed and the reinforced concrete ground beam installation is ongoing. Phase 2, providing 13 bungalow units, is nearing completion, and Phase 1 has been handed over.
March 2013 – Marsden Road, Bath
Construction underway The substructure and drainage design for three new terraced timber framed apartment buildings in Bath started in March. February 2013 – Barton Road, St Philips, completed This triangular four-storey apartment block, for St George’s Homes, was completed in February 2013. The block houses ten apartments with one, two or three bedrooms, and a set-back top floor apartment. January 2013 – New lift well for Claremont Residential Care Home
Work will be commencing to build a new external lift well for this care home soon.
October 2012 – All stations go at Crown Hill, Bath – groundworks complete and superstructure in progress
After a very busy summer, we’re pleased to say that the groundworks for all five mansions are now complete, and work on the superstructure is underway. We’re sure it won’t be long before there will be five new extremely happy home owners gazing down on Bath and the Box Valley from their beautiful new properties!
July 2012 – PRO Structures are reappointed by Charlcombe Homes as Crown Hill gets underway
Following the successful completion of Lansdown Ridge, a development of four high profile luxury homes overlooking the Box Valley and city of Bath, PRO Structures is delighted to be acting as structural engineer on Charlcombe Homes’ next scheme at Crown Hill, adjacent to Ensleigh Lodge, for five more prestigious, low carbon and equally bespoke mansions. With five bedrooms apiece, each signature home will enjoy stunning views over the valley and a contemporary, modern design. Construction has started on the foundations and civil engineering enabling works, with the superstructure to follow in the next few months.
July 2012 – 51 Barton Road, St Phillips – four storey apartment block nears completion
This triangular four-storey apartment block, for St George’s Homes, is in the final phases of construction, with a high proportion of the apartments already sold. The block houses ten apartments with one, two or three bedrooms, and a set-back top floor.

We look forward to continuing our relationship with Charlcombe Homes as this project gets underway.
March 2012 – Lansdown Ridge opens for viewings
One of our flagship projects for the year is an exclusive development of four 5-bedroom detached luxury homes in Lansdown, Bath, with panoramic views over the Swainswick and Box Valleys. PRO Structures was the structural engineer for this scheme, whose buildings utilise piled foundations with insulated concrete walling for their superstructure support. We have liaised closely with the architect to guarantee the high specification needed for these homes, providing best value designed concepts while meeting a challenging aesthetic brief. The design team enjoyed a pre-launch party to celebrate the completion of the first two houses at the end of March. We just wished we could all move in!
February 2012 – structural design complete for The Cottages, Mount Pleasant Estate, Coventry
We have recently completed the structural design on three new 3-storey apartment blocks in Coventry, which will include 14 apartments in all. They represent an interesting blend of traditional construction with suspended precast concrete flooring. We were delighted to have won this new commission for Hall Bros Builders, following the success of our work with them on Brade Drive Retirement Village.
January 2012 – PRO Structures appointed preferred supplier to Homeworx
Homeworx Design and Build has chosen PRO Structures as their preferred structural engineer to work alongside them within their portfolio of associated professionals. November 2011 – foundation work underway at Water Lane Development, Wotton-under-Edge, for Elan Homes

October 2011 – 213 A Bath Road, Cheltenham, handed over
This 2-storey infill development, L-shaped on plan, presented PRO Structures with several interesting sub-structure and structural design issues. With buildings on both sides, we were working in constrained circumstances, and needed to find innovative foundation design solutions while also endeavouring to cause minimum disruption to the neighbouring buildings. This project was completed in autumn 2011.
September 2011 – construction starts at 51 Barton Road, St Philips, Bristol
This new four-storey apartment block is a interesting triangular building (as viewed on plan), which will house ten apartments with one, two or three bedrooms.
