PRO Structures was asked to undertake a visual structural assessment of the gymnasium’s historic segmental composite aluminium arched dome, to ascertain if the existing structure was stable and robust enough to be kept as part of the proposed new building extension planned for next year.

The goal is to provide extra space in the gymnasium complex, including a new public area with a mezzanine floor and viewing gallery, plus multi-use rooms, a cafe and office spaces.

The original aluminium framework was built in the late 1970s at the British Gymnastics HQ in Lilleshall, Shropshire. Fromeside purchased the structure and after acquiring suitable land, it was reassembled with a public area attached and opened for use in 1987.

From our observations, we came up with solutions to keep this structure going for as long as possible which was both good for the client and the environment!
